Pommes Frites is not what you would expect to see featured here on Fresh Rag. There isn’t a single piece of art, poster or stationery anywhere in Kristen Pumphrey’s shop. Instead she has unique, handmade candles in pharmaceutical jars and some old books. The intriguing part about Pommes Frites is not the paper that’s there, but rather, the paper that’s not. More so, the paper that got cut away is why I’m featuring Kristen here. Also, she’s from Long Beach, so that’s an instant guaranteed entry (LBC represent).
The hidden flask is a no-brainer. Who wouldn’t want that parlor trick in their repertoire? And, of course, the hidden valuables is a great idea too, but I’m really more interested in the books with the ring pillows. Yeah, don’t let the tattoos and grizzly beard fool you; I’m a sappy romantic at heart. Just knowing that some dude rocked his girlfriend’s world by giving her an old book with a diamond ring it makes me kind of nostalgic.
You see, when I proposed to my wife (of 8 years this week. Happy Anniversary, Les!), I hid the ring in a magazine and faked like I bought it randomly for her. Unfortunately, she whipped the magazine open before I had a chance to prepare myself, nearly flinging the ring across the room in the process. This wouldn’t have happened if I had one of Pommes Frites hidden ring books. Maybe I’ll come back for the 10 year anniversary. (more after the jump)
