Can You Spot the Superstar Champion in Your Life?

warrior-face-5k-ocmarathon

I ran my first official 5k event this weekend  and I feel pretty damn good about it. See, I don't run. I have been on a plan to get healthier, but running is not on my regimen. I hate running, really. If I had a choice, I'd rather ride a bike or skateboard before I ever ran a mile, let alone 3.1 miles. I came in at around 36 minutes, just over 12 minutes a mile. That's not bad, but it's not fantastic either. Let's be real for a moment. I came exactly dead center of the group. In my age group, I was in the bottom 36%. I did not run the whole thing. If I gave a damn about those numbers, I might come to the conclusion I suck and have no business running amongst the other athletes, but let's look at those stats from a different perspective. I was better than half the group I did better than 70 other guys in the 40 to 44 age group. I ran at least 2.5 miles of the course, which is pretty unbelievable if you know me. Most importantly, I beat the SHIT out of anybody that did not … [Read more...]

Fated Attraction — How to Choose Art From Within

fated-attraction-01

This is a guest post from artist, athlete, traveler, intuitive, psychic-medium, and old soul, Jacquelyn Tierney. She's here to talk about an uncharacteristic topic for these pages—Intuition. Everything we acquire has a story, an energetic tale to tell. From our environments to our bodies, our furniture to our collectables, each piece of our lives and that of the universal whole contains an energetic history that forever grows and evolves. Embedded in one's family heirlooms for example are the experiences and memories of ancestors. Within the walls of a pre-owned home are the vibrations of birthdays, proms, first steps, even the ugly argument. And art? Not only is art imprinted by the artist's physical hand, but also of his ponderings, his insinuations, his revelations, and maybe that of his assistant too. Within art, and any creative vision that has materialized, whether it be a building, object, installation or print, lies not only the energetic hand of the visionary, … [Read more...]

First Timers Share Their Insight on How to Sell Big on Fab.com

HandP-02

My friend, Emily Spada of Hester & Pearl, had inquired with me about how Fab.com worked. I had never run a Fab sale before, but I've had some friends do them, so I imparted a few words of wisdom to Emily that my friends had been passed onto me. When she told me she was going to be featured on Fab, I immediately asked her to tell her story for all of you that might be interested in doing the same. We agreed that Emily would do this pre-sale update and then come back after the whole thing was over and fill us in on how it all worked out. The sale started yesterday, but you can see the delectable delights here Read on for more on her experience: … [Read more...]

Construction Zone! Wear Your Hard Hat

Folks, I'll be testing out a new theme here this weekend, so if you happen to be on the site and things look a bit wonky, you'll know why. I'll talk more about the details later, but basically Thesis Theme sucks now, it's impossible for a neophyte like me to use correctly, and the Genesis framework is much to simple to avoid anymore. Please ignore the dust, it's only temporary. Soon the site will be even more awesome. … [Read more...]

photo by misha hettie - hellomisha.com

This is a guest post by Misha Hettie, a California to Texas and back to California transplant who takes great photos of brooding teens and powerful women. You can find her at both HelloMisha.com and MishaHettie.com So you need a headshot for your business, but you don't want newscaster stiff hair and a cheesy grin to be your image amongst colleagues and clients. You also don't want a snapshot taken on a night out at the local cantina to be the representation of you throughout your network. Let's face it - this is more than just a photo; this is part of the identity you're creating for yourself and it needs to say all the things you want it to say about you— and none of the stuff you don't want. These five easy steps will help you upgrade your profile photo from not-quite-ready-for-that-promotion to hey-this-employee-looks-promising! 1. Get Your Hair Did Take time to make sure your hair (and makeup, if you're so inclined) looks good. No need for a makeup artist, but you DO … [Read more...]
