Do It Your Damn Self

chalkboard - drawing with the mouse is hard

A friend of mine made an off-the-cuff comment to me yesterday about my post, something to the degree of, “you’re using someone else’s photo again”. My friend didn’t mean anything by it except as a general statement, but the idea hit me in an interesting way.

I am an artist and graphic designer—Why the heck aren’t I making my own art for every single post. Even if my art sucks in comparison to the photo I might showcase, unless I’m specifically featuring the work of another artists, there really is no reason why I shouldn’t be doing my own thing.

On a related note, I’ll occasionally be posting tips on how I create some of the art pieces I do, both for the blog and real life. I also want to share some graphic design tips for people that have no interest in graphic design. I know, I’m really targeting a burgeoning market there, but I figure some of them might actually want to know something new about how to lay out a business card or create some nice typography.

Finally, thanks to everyone for all the kind words this week. I really appreciate the encouragement I got, both on and off-site, and I hope I can repay that debt with more killer content in the future.

PS – If anyone is interested in how I created this chalkboard effect in Photoshop, let me know and I will start with that tutorial first.
