I’ve said it before, and I firmly believe, calligraphers are the highest rung of the graphic arts evolutionary ladder. Having the skills to be accurately render type by hand, in perfect space and symmetry, and mix up the design styles at the drop of a hat, puts them so many leaps ahead of those of us that manipulate type in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. It’s not even fun to really talk about because I get all upset at how much I suck in comparison. By the same measure, Dana Tanamachi pisses me off by how talented she is, because on top of being skilled in hand lettering, she does so in a temporary medium and readily erases her work when finished.
When I say, “Kiss my ass, Dana Tanamachi”, I mean it in only the highest regard possible and from a place of extreme awe and respect. Video is really the only way to properly show you how bad ass she is.
Thanks to Chic Type for the linkage.
