David King at Salt Fine Art

One of my favorite galleries in San Francisco is Hang Art Gallery, and although they don't carry a ton of artists who work on paper, they have a few standouts, one being David King. You guys know me and my affinity for geometric abstracts. … [Read more...]

Print Possessed: Style is a Myth

art-prints-and-originals-print-possessed-2

Who says, as an artist, you have to maintain a rigid attachment to a particular style in order to establish yourself? Definitely not Andrea of Print Possessed. She's an artist and designer based in Madrid, Spain, and she's doing some pretty inventive work without being constrained by artistic ideals that keep artists pinned down to one genre or motif. There's absolutely nothing conventional about Andrea's work, which is blatantly obvious when you start digging around her Etsy shop. Although you can tell at a glance that the work is similar enough to be in one collection, it's far from being so structured as to call it a series. Go see for yourself to see what I mean. … [Read more...]

Maja Ruznic’s Messengers

I've featured a whole lot of artists who work on paper since starting this site back in April, and I have quite a few favorites. Some have even seeped so far into my psyche that I'm eagerly awaiting a chance to buy an original piece from them. Maja Ruznic's watercolor art originals are definitely in that latter category. While perusing her latest offerings, I saw these two below, Woman Praying and Man Waiting. These are a little less surreal than a lot of Ruznic's work, but still move me. I wonder what she's charge for the set? At only 5x8" a piece, I can't imagine they're ridiculous, but then again, I've seen Picasso's in that size go for tens of thousands, so who knows. Perhaps I should ask Maya and find out for sure.   … [Read more...]

Mammoth Gets Original Starting With Jeremy Miranda

It was bound to happen, I'm sure, but Mammoth & Co announced they are now offering original artwork of select pieces, starting with these four from Jeremy Miranda, an East Coast artist who resides in Massachusetts, specializing in these surreal landscapes. Of course you can still get the same print offerings as before, so if you're on a tighter budget, but still want some quality art, hit up those limited editions instead. … [Read more...]

Open Wide for Corbett Sparks

Corbett-Sparks-01

How it's possible that Corbett Sparks has yet to sell a single piece on his Etsy shop is beyond me. The watercolor work is very nice, and the subject matter is unique and provocative. Maybe the gaping maws of animals, or close up depictions of cephalopods isn't your thing, but they have to be somebody's cup of tea, right? As artist's we sometimes believe that if we do good work, people will see it and eventually become a patron or benefactor. That's not always the case, especially on Etsy, where sometimes buyers can be a bit on the less-than-savvy side when it comes to original art. Nevertheless, I'm here to help. Go buy something from Corbett Sparks, right now. No, they're not cheap, but you know you want to be his first. UPDATE - Literally In the time it took me to write this post last night, Corbett got his first sale. Now you should be his 2nd, and 3rd, and so on.   … [Read more...]
