5 Simple Tricks to Triple Your Traffic From Facebook

Join the Fight - Fresh Rag Army Needs You

Facebook is great. It helps me stay in touch with family in friends in a way I never had before. It also helps me build a following far beyond the reach of this blog, but we don't operate our businesses on Facebook. In order to get people to get people to become followers of our blogs, readers of our newsletters or buyers of our products, we need to find ways to get our followers off Facebook and onto whatever website we want them to be visiting. I recently shared some of my best tricks on the Fresh Rag Newsletter for how I get people from the Facebook page onto this website. One reader asked if the information was posted on the blog for him to share with his friends, so here is my top five tips for converting Facebook fans to customers. Always use a photo or video in your Facebook posts. Always post a link to your website with any status update, photo or video. Keep your web address above the fold. The Pitfalls of Chasing Your Passion

passionate - sean howard photography

This is a guest post by Sean Howard, a long-time friend (even though we've never met in person), marketing genius, photographer and dog lover. The subject of passion is cornerstone to his ideologies, and he encourages us to seek out passion, despite the potential hazards. "Follow your passion, chart your own course, march to the beat of your own drummer, follow your dreams and find yourself. This is the litany of expressive individualism, which is still the dominant note in American culture. But, of course, this mantra misleads on nearly every front." So said David Brooks in a New York Times article called "It's Not About You". I wholeheartedly agree with him: Passion is a red herring on the path to fulfillment and true happiness. It represents a fleeting and hedonistic approach to life. All of which leads me to my advice. Go and follow your passion You heard me right. Following your passion may not lead to fulfillment or true happiness, but it is worth every second of your … [Read more...]

Questions With Eventual Answers

On the hunt for answers - Photo: Alexander Lake

In order to find out more about what my readers would like to read about, I poised a question to a dozen of my creative friends: "What is the one question you wish you could get help with for your business"? The answers were varied, but many orbited around the same general topics. Here are there responses: How do i get featured by a larger outlet, like a major blog, site, whatever? Am I doing [insert job] right?" And where's the info to tell me I am? How to get to that perfect point where the work is steady so I can outsource, be selective about what I do myself and what I can let go control of? How to grow my business, or what should be my next steps? What can I do more of, or differently, right now to grow the business? How can I use my success to help others so they can also enjoy success? What does the market truly want? How to build up or maintain interest, and steady shoppers, all year long? How do I maintain a better work/life balance and and still grow? How … [Read more...]

It’s About Making The Art Work

live-art-in-progress

With all the confusion of last week, I'm sure some of you might be a bit unsure exactly what the heck I'm actually doing. As promised, this post will break down everything I have planned for 2013, but first, a little clarification on the new mission. When I started Fresh Rag, the idea was to find a way to help artists who work with paper find more success, either through exposure, or hopefully more sales. At some point I drifted, losing my way a bit, and Fresh Rag became more about art curation. There's nothing wrong with curation sites, but there are a ton of them out there already, and the goal to Fresh Rag was to be different, a little more than typical art blogs. After last weeks wake-up call, I took some time to figure out Fresh Rag's mission. Putting it simply, it's not just about the artwork, but helping make the art work. I want to help artists improve the overall quality of their lives, be it through sales, attention and better promotion. With a renewed vigor, I'll be … [Read more...]
