Alberto Cerriteno Spends Much Time With The Wild Things

Maurice Sendak was a long time companion of mine when I was young, or at least his stories were. I only really remember two books from my early youth; Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs & Ham, and Where the Wild Things Are. So, whenever I see tributes made in Sendak's honor, I feel a bit of a kinship with the artist because I know the work touched their lives as much as mine. Alberto Cerriteno is no exception, and really, the sheer amount of time and energy that went into these cut paper tributes far exceeds anything I could ever do to pay homage to the Wild Things. Of course, Cerriteno is a highly accomplished illustrator. You can check out more of his work on his Behance portfolio.   … [Read more...]

The Cut Paper Art of Calvin Nicholls Makes My Hands Hurt

calvin-nicholls-1

There's really no better way to express how I feel about Calvin Nicholls except that he is insane. And by insane, I mean insanely talented with an incredible amount of attention to detail. These cut paper sculptures are almost ludicrous in their detail, but oh so awesome. Via Ape on the Moon … [Read more...]

Cut Paper Genius by Bird Mafia

birdmafia-1

Artists that do cut paper work have my respect because of the time and tenacity it takes to produce quality work. I have no where near the patience to spend that much time with an Xacto blade, but Emily Brown of Bird Mafia definitely does. I love the depth of her shadow boxes, so much that I actually bought on for my home. Emily has an Etsy shop, but I didn't see any of the cut paper there, mostly plush animals, pillows and other fabric goods. It's possible that she sold a lot of her art stock during all the shows she attended, but have a look over at her main site and perhaps inquire with Emily there to see about purchasing new art. … [Read more...]

Dubrovskaya Makes Paper Dolls, But Not Like You Remember

Paper Dolls aren't my thing normally, but these are freaking hilarious and awesome. I don't know much about Maria Dubrovskaya, but she's a Siberian transplanted into The Philippines where she makes each one of these creations by hand. Not all of her work is supposed to be satirical, but you can see the humor in a lot of her work. Check out more on her Etsy page and her website. … [Read more...]

Cut Paper and Illustration from Owlo

Owlo is the creation of designer and artist, Huntz Liu. I'm not typically a fan of kawaii style products, but I dig the geometry and color usage of the Owlo pieces. Of course I'm a fan of abstraction, so pieces like Organic Mechanic below definitely get my attention. On screen never does artwork justice, especially when color is involved, so I'm looking forward to seeing Huntz' work at the Unique LA show. Owlo is the 2nd installment in our Unique Paper series. You can also see some of his personal design work at Huntz.net. … [Read more...]
